In TEAMS Class, there are three essential categories of learning in which all UPES students will engage in order to have a full understanding of technology in the 21st century: Project-Based Learning, Keyboarding and Digital Citizenship. Remember, we are preparing our kids for jobs that do not even exist yet! Students will learn to: 1) be safe and responsible while online and using technology tools by learning to protect personal and private information (like passwords, names, addresses, and phone numbers), how to deal with cyberbullying, how to cite a source, and how to be an outstanding digital citizen. 2) They will learn how to digitally collaborate with other students and teachers with incredibly useful tools such as Google Docs, Pages, Keynote, Email, while connecting with rich material. And, 3) they will learn how to work in teams and be creative with technology in ways that could involve anything from starring in a television show, to creating a comic book, or even programming a robot, and improving their keyboarding skills!
In kid terms, here are the 6 standards we are following in class:
The 6 Standards of Technology!
1. Use it!
Prove you know how to use the technology we study in class every day.
2. Protect it!
Show that you know how to use technology in a safe, respectful, and courteous way.
3. Make it!
Demonstrate how creative you can be with technology by applying your knowledge, formulating new ideas, and being original. (Be sure to check your spelling and grammar!)
4. Share it!
Prove you know how to use all the technology tools by collaborating, posting, and publishing your work.
5. Find it!
Show that you know how to research a topic, and wisely use the information you found.
6. Solve it!
Demonstrate that you know how to solve problems with technology, analyze issues, and draw your own conclusions.
When broken down, these standards look like this:
